New chaplain bring new initiatives

Immerse offers theological education to high schoolers for second year

New Ministry on campus: “Need Prayer?”

信仰-business initiative expands
信仰 & Co. is a 14-part documentary series produced by SPU that highlights the struggles, 胜利, and stories of businesspeople wrestling with what it means to live out business as their calling. Filmed across three continents and 18 U.S. 城市, and featuring a wide range of industries — high tech, 卫生保健, 零售, and property development — 信仰 & Co. seeks to provoke questions and provide insights about what it means to act as 信仰ful followers of Christ in business. 一个免费的, eight-week online course to deepen connections between 信仰 and work was offered to the public in January, 探索主题, 概念, and questions raised by the films through exercises, 阅读, and interviews with business and thought leaders. An accompanying study guide is sold on Amazon.com. The course is also offered for credit, which can be applied toward an SPU graduate business degree.

Students participate in homelessness immersion program
在寒假开始时, 14 students engaged in a five-day immersive 学习 program called Urban Plunge to focus on the human crisis of homelessness in 西雅图. Hosted by the 约翰·珀金斯中心, the students received three weeks of orientation prior to their experience. 组团旅游, students spent their days exploring 西雅图, including eating at meal sites (which are reimbursed for the resources consumed by students), 与人互动, hearing stories of people experiencing homelessness, and 学习 from the 的关系 and interactions of organizations serving the homeless community. They spent their nights in a local church. Site visits included Millionair Club Charity, New Horizons, Mary’s Place, and NeighborCare Clinic.
Theologians celebrated at book event
